Gatekeeper Pico: The Future of Secure Computing?

The 2008 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) saw the unveiling of the Gatekeeper Pico. The Gatekeeper Pico is a USB key sized application that looks like a Flash drive, but is actually a full blown computer with its own processor and operating system.

It straight away won the prize for “Best of Innovations 2008—Computer Accessories”.

So what is innovative about the Gatekeeper Pico? Well, this mini-computer can connect to any PC or laptop and can block Internet threats outside the host computer. It can also boost PC and laptop performance by off-loading it from installed security software.

The makers of this remarkable piece of accessory— Yoggie Security Systems have referred to it as a plug and forget functionality that protects a computer with “best-of-breed security”. They also point out that Gatekeeper Pico ” provides the most comprehensive all-in-one security technology available to consumers today”.

This innovative security suite has the ability to check for and manage updates by itself. It does not require complex configuration on installation and it may be the death knell for standalone computer security softwares in the way it claims to free system resources and enhance the performance of the computer running the Gatekeeper Pico.
