Yes, you read it right. The underground Internet channels are being plastered with ads that are looking for hackers who are fluent in Chinese, or Russian, or Portuguese, or Spanish. Why? Well, for one the English hacking market is now more or less saturated. The hackers and spammers have conquered a lot of territory in the English speaking hacking targets over the last few years. Those that have succeeded are now looking to consolidate in these prime targets. Statistics say that around 67% of spam emails sent to inboxes all over the world, are in English. Not until a year or two back, 3/4 of these spam emails and spoofy websites used to be riddled with wrong English. It was easy to detect the red flags for people like you and me. We would have a hearty laugh and then move on. Well, the typos and errors have now gone down to account for only 10% of all spam emails and phishing websites. What does that prove? It proves that the hackers are slowly perfecting their trade. They are now monitoring the quality of their content, and making it more and more difficult for common people to differentiate between what is legitimate and what is not. This has also yielded results for them as hacking is now a multi-million dollars industry now in the US alone. So when you have a business that has grown and become increasingly profitable, it is only natural for a business person to diversify. So why not look at the vast, untapped, non-English speaking Internet crowd. Why not diversify to China? Isn’t Baidu the second most visited site in the world? What about Alibaba? And don’t Russians have a soft corner for their home grown .Ru properties? It is not surprising that hackers are now choosing to diversify. Their cash flow of millions will easily turn into billions if they strike gold in China, or Russia, or Portugal. What is however, alarming, is that they have learned their lessons, and have incorporated those learnings in their new ventures.

It will be safe to assume that spams in Chinese and Russian will be more or less free of typos. They will look as authentic and professional from the word “go”, as some of the English spoofs have become after several years of evolution. The head hunting ads say it all: The candidate should have excellent language skills.

Well, there you go. There is always a lesson to learn if you look at the strategies behind people’s actions. This is a great business move. I would however, advise you to look at the actions too. Look very hard and be prepared for the deluge of spams in your mother tongue to invade your in box. And be careful… be very careful.
